About Uganda

Regulatory Framework
Uganda's mining sector is governed by the Mining and Minerals Act 2022, administered by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development. The Act establishes a licensing regime for prospecting, mining and mineral trading. Export permits are required for all mineral shipments and the government has implemented an electronic mining cadastre system for licence management.
Export Process
Mineral exports from Uganda require an export licence from the Commissioner of Mines. Documentation requirements include commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, assay certificate and proof of mining licence. Gold exports are subject to Bank of Uganda regulations.
