Central Africa — Mineral Sourcing
The Democratic Republic of Congo is one of the world's most mineral-rich nations, hosting vast reserves of copper, cobalt, coltan, tin, tungsten, gold and diamonds. The country's Central African Copperbelt is among the most prolific copper-cobalt mining regions on earth.
The DRC produces approximately 70% of the world's cobalt and is a major source of industrial copper. The eastern provinces of North Kivu, South Kivu and Maniema produce significant quantities of coltan, tin and tungsten. The Kasai region is known for industrial and artisanal diamond production.
AL AIN METALS sources minerals from the DRC with strict adherence to OECD Due Diligence Guidance. We work with established mining operations and implement robust due diligence procedures to ensure all minerals are responsibly sourced with full traceability.
The DRC's mining sector is governed by the Mining Code 2002 and the Mining Regulations 2002. The Ministry of Mines administers licensing and regulatory oversight. The DRC requires environmental impact assessments and has implemented a mining cadastre system. For conflict-affected areas, the DRC participates in international due diligence frameworks for tin, tantalum, tungsten and gold (3TG minerals).
Mineral exports from the DRC require export certificates from the Direction Générale des Mines. Documentation includes commercial invoice, packing list, certificate of origin, assay certificate and any required due diligence documentation. Copper and cobalt exports from Katanga typically route through the Zambian border or Dar es Salaam port.
The DRC has assaying facilities in Lubumbashi and Kinshasa. AL AIN METALS uses independent third-party laboratories for all DRC-sourced minerals. We implement additional verification procedures given the complexity of the DRC mining landscape.
Our DRC cobalt supply chain is aligned with OECD Due Diligence Guidance. We source from established industrial mining operations and implement robust due diligence procedures. Full traceability documentation is provided for every shipment.
The DRC's main mineral exports include copper, cobalt, coltan (tantalum), tin, tungsten, gold and diamonds. The country holds some of the world's largest reserves of cobalt and copper.
We implement OECD Due Diligence Guidance procedures, conduct supplier audits, require full documentation from mining partners, and use independent verification laboratories. We work only with suppliers meeting our responsible sourcing standards.
